Pupils and staff arrived back to school this year to a newly upgraded back yard. The upgrading of the back yard was undertaken following a successful Summer Works application to the Department of Education. The application was submitted to the DES by the Board of Management in June 2019.
In early 2022 the Board was notified that this application had been sanctioned for funding.
This funding was essential to undertake the upgrade of the yard. The yard space at the rear of the school had a number of different levels. It was covered with a number of different surface types including an overgrown grass area, a tarmac area with hollows and a raised rubble area where a prefab was previously located. On health and safety grounds only a small fraction of the space at the rear was being used as a play area for pupils.
The Board of Management was delighted to be sanctioned for funding for the much needed and sought after upgrade. The work on the yard began in July and was completed on August 30th 2022. The initial pictures show the yard prior to upgrading. They then show the work in progress over the Summer months.
The final group of pictures show the pupils celebrating the opening of the yard with ice -cream on a sunny September day.
