Trials were held in Ahane Natioanl School for the Limerick Primary Schools Cross Country Finals. Children from the age 7 and up competed in the trials. The first six from each race qualified to represent the school on the race day.
Training was held in the school to improve every athlete who was running on the day. everyone got better with all the training they did. Training was coached by Mrs. Kennedy and Mrs. Ryan.
On the ninth of November 68 pupils from the school traveled to Limerick Racecourse to represent the school in the Limerick Primary Schools Cross Country Finals. The top six in each race got medals and Ahane N.S had a numerous amount of athletes in the top pole positions. The school did very well to bring home ten individual medals and three team medals. The school had two gold, two silvers and six bronze individual medals. Ahane also had one gold, one silver and one bronze team medals. Gold medal winners were Dara Kennedy U12 boys and Aoife Whelan U13 girls. Silver medal winners were won by Rosie Hickey U9 girls and Nicole Cusack U13 girls. Bronze medal winners, which includes 5th, 5th and 6th positions, were Aidan Donnelly U8 boys, Donnacha Donnelly U10 boys, Darragh Lehane U13 boys, Cody Murphy U13 boys, Sam Flynn U13 boys and Lucy Cusack U13 girls. The boys U13 team of Darragh Lehane, Cody Murphy, Sam Flynn and Ben Murphy won gold in the team competition. The girls U9 team of Rosie Hickey, Sophie McNamara, Ruth Lonergan, Ruby Carmody, Gráinne Lunn and Eve Ryanwon silver in the team competition. The boys U10 team of Donnacha Donnelly, Dara Moloughney, Denis Blackwell, Conor Cusack, Mark Lonergan and Eoghan Fitzpatrick won bronze in the team competition.
The school had two athletes that were unlucky not to get an individual medal by one position and those athletes were Grace Dillon U8 girls and Niamh Brennan U12 girls. Ahane N.S also had two teams that came fourth and missed out on a team medal which included Aidan Donnelly, Shane Moloughney, Oisín Kennedy, Daniel Lynch, Alan Hourigan and Séan Ryan and the other team was u12 girls which included Niamh Brennan, Aoife Lunn,
