Ahane school Walk to Dublin

Over the past few weeks, the children and staff in Ahane N.S. have been trying to  pool together all the classes walking efforts to attempt to walk from Ahane N.S. to the G.P.O. in Dublin.

We started the process when the active flag committee measured the distance there is in one lap of the school and they measured that as 0.2 km. The members of the active committee also kept a log of how far their own class had travelled and then met on Thursday evenings with Ms. Tierney to add up the school's progress that day. By simply completing this walk everyday the children were more energised and always looked forward to completing their laps for the day.

The journey was 196km and last Friday, the 4th May, the whole school came together to complete our last km. The children had to decide a fun way to complete their last km and we had a fantastic variety on show, including disco theme and dancing the last km, 80's theme, fancy dress and dressing as your favourite sports star. When we reached Dublin, we celebrated by having a 'Funky Friday Disco' in the yard, which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.
